in deference to my mother, I have amended the original poem to be more “upbeat” — late changes, April 4
vernal celebrations
first robin returning
first nest building
first worm caught and relished, wriggling,
first bunny eating clover
first fawn in the meadow
first bee among the orchard trees
first blossoms scenting the air
sun rises over the moist world,
receptive,
ready to burst forth,
fecund,
filled with the promise
of good days to come
p.s. — Mother was right (again)!
