Poetry Month 2010 #13

when life gives you lemons
you make lemonade
until you remember
that you still have perfectly good soda
held in reserve on the back porch
and just for a moment you ignore
the lemons

when the workload piles on
with no relief in sight
and the season stretches away against the horizon
short night after long day

then you dig in
and make space
however small
you make time
however brief

for the important people
in your life
and you serve them
the sodas
held in reserve
