We are getting things put in place. I spent most of the last couple days on either the bedroom/closets or my office. We also tidied up the great room/kitchen a bit more. Here is an update.
Without a few more shelves, drawers, bins, cubbies and other hiding places, I am at a standstill for most of the inside materials. However, what I have put away so far is pretty good — I acquired a lot of used books and replaced many… and then discovered that I had stashed a couple boxes of grad school books in the storage locker before the fire! So, although many art and garden reference books still need to be replaced, I have the beginnings of a decent library again.
The bedroom is taking shape nicely. I have decided to put a wall of velveteen curtains behind the bed and put a small area rug in the seating area to soften sound (remember the concrete floors?). They will also serve to block light from the small window above the bed and give the room a bit of “glam.” I bought one pair of lovely gray curtains at IKEA, but need two more pairs to cover the wall. Then I will make a box valance that goes wall to wall and makes the little window seem larger. I want to use fabric something like this one from JoAnn Fabrics.
I think the best colors for the bedroom will be a lovely warm gray and blue/brown overall color scheme. It will coordinate well with the blue and light gray of the bathroom, and be restful and cozy. An elegant room, once I manage to get the chairs re-upholstered, or at least slip-covered.
The bathroom is looking more and more sophisticated as we add the little touches, like a curtain between the bathing area at the back and the washing up area:
And in the kitchen, I moved my great-grandmother’s hutch base over to the coffee area, and arranged it, thus freeing up a little cart and providing a designated space for both coffee/tea service and snacks. It looks nice this way, and becomes more functional while we wait to refinish the top.
Finally, a picture of the living room “in process” from a couple of days ago. The pretty girl is Grant’s girlfriend. She makes that easy chair look good!
